Ive been curious for a really long time as to why Dazai always keeps his right eye covered before he leaves the mafia, and the answer i keep seeing really doesn’t feel right to me
Most people seem to think that Dazai covers his right eye because it is blind/impaired, they also say that light can disorient him even though he can’t see out of it.
This is a real thing that can happen with eye conditions and could absolutely have been the reason if not for how its framed thematically.
When Oda pulls off Dazai’s bandages it symbolises him opening Dazais eyes to the idea of doing good and giving him a reason to keep living.
Its so weird to think that Oda was saying, “I want you to hide your disability and be uncomfortable and disoriented from now on.” and I don’t think Dazai would interpreted it like that either.
Its also important that Dazai never puts them back on, after Oda dies he never covers his eye again.
My theory is that Dazai covers his eye for the same reason Chuuya kept his hands in his pockets. self sabotage.
Dazai has frequently said he was bored with life, trying to find excitement and through that, find a reason to live. to do that he tried to find something that surpassed his expectations and truly thrilled him. to do this he handicapped himself in a way that would make him much less effective as a opponent.
he can’t see out of right eye which will effect his aim with a gun, his ability to detect ambushes, his ability to observe his environment ect… we even see this affect happen since he’s almost always injured on his right side.
H finally stops wearing them when he’s giving an actual motivation, (Save the weak, protect the orphaned) and he has a actual reason to put his full effort into something.
Sorry this post was a bit of a mess, I just keep thinking about it, its such good symbolism.
when she says “ily” but chūya jumped off a flying helicopter an fought a dragon 100x bigger than him just to save Dazai (HIS ENEMY). even going as far as to trust that Dazai (HIS ENEMY) will save him back an keep him alive.
i also hate how when things clearly trigger snape, they are dismissed but we can get a whole book on what triggers others and it’s treated with the utmost sympathy and patience but for snape it’s crickets. it’s hypocritical. we all know snape doesn’t handle what happened to him properly, but there is never any sympathy for him. just because he’s an asshole now doesn’t mean what happened to him doesn’t count. and when there IS sympathy, like harry admitting out loud that he felt sorry for snape, remus was QUICK to swoop in and change the subject. i see you sir.

And the Fact that he’s acting like he knew shit about potions is hilarious cause you just got Snape in the corner like

Like how does he get away with half the shit he does like almost everyone there has taught him since he was 11 and they just see this 21 year old just walk back in like “Sup fuckers I’m a professor now by force better so you better start treating me like one.”
The fact that Snape is one of the youngest if not THE youngest professor is fucking hilarious.
This whole damn thread is why I adore this corner of the fandom, like I honestly imagine Snape just having one of those GIANT mugs that’s always filled with coffee. Also I don’t even think he’d have his traditional robes he’s known for in his adulthood. Like, the man would still be scrawny af. So I genuinely believe that his best effort to look “teachery” is just a trousers and shirt all in black of course.
Like I just imagine him genuinely looking exactly like a student just without the tie and robes. Also let’s not forget to mention. Potions master and head of slytherin house at 21. He radiates chaotic energy in his early twenties. Just honestly 😌😌
